Training & Tools for Community Resilience & Climate Action

Community Climate Coaches offers training and tools to support communities taking meaningful action on the climate, biodiversity, and wellbeing crises.

This training focuses on how to build your knowledge and experience for delivering short and long-term engagement and facilitation activities for local climate and community action initiatives.

Who is this for?

Community Climate Coaches (CCCs) is for individuals and organisations that want to build their skills and knowledge for taking meaningful community action on climate, biodiversity and wellbeing. Our training and tools support communities to develop community resilience plans, climate action plans, and implement actions that build local resilience in the face of the social, ecological and local-level economic crises.

Community Climate Coaches provides training and support to empower community facilitators, coaches and catalysts to support communities in the vital process of visioning, planning and implementing change. Our objective is to enhance the capacity to scale climate and biodiversity action, and community-led action in general, and a just transition through community-led initiatives that strengthen the resilience and wellbeing of communities, individuals and local places.

Community Climate Coaches is therefore particularly designed for:

  1. Individuals, organisations or networks involved in community climate action and related activity to strengthen local resilience;
  2. Anyone that may want to become a Community Climate Coach after completing our online CCC Intro course or reading these CCC webpages.

You can follow the links below to explore more detailed information on key elements of this approach to supporting, accelerating and deepening community climate action and community resilience - or follow this link to find out more about the Community Climate Coaches Training.

There is also a free Intro to Community Climate Coaches online self-study course available on the online Community Hub.

After a 2 day CCC Workshop in May 2025 hosted by the Sero Community Environment Centre in Carmarthen, with participants from 12 local ‘critical yeast’ community organisations, Sue Holmes (a Director of Sero) said about the training:

“It’s come at a pivotal time for us and it’s been amazing… it’s given us the opportunity to sit back and evaluate, and to really move forward for the future… I’d recommend it to anyone.”

Who are we?

The Community Climate Coaches (CCC) initiative in the UK is led by Permaculture Association (Britain) in collaboration with other UK partners and a European CCC partnership. We have run four CCC pilot trainings in 2024-25 in partnership with Climate Action Leeds, SCCAN (Scottish Communities Climate Action Network), Shift Bristol and the Sero Community Environment Centre in Carmarthen, funded by the Network for Social Change. We have learnt a lot from these pilots, and are now ready to start to roll-out the CCC trainings. Our aim is to build a UK-wide partnership and community of practitioners that uses the Community Climate Coaches approach alongside other approaches to scale, expand and accelerate community climate action - with appropriate co-lead partners in each of the four UK nations.

Creating a Community of Practice of Community Climate Activists

The activities of this initiative are laying the foundations for a Community of Practice of Community Climate Coaches (CCC's). These coaches will help organise and facilitate community engagement processes, over a period of time, that include a focus on community action for climate, biodiversity, wellbeing and resilience. The coaches support communities to identify their own goals, and how they want to achieve them. Through this process of learning and practice CCC's will refine the CCC Training, Toolbox and support system.

Through a series of CCC trainings in 2024-25, we are starting to build an initial network of organisers, facilitators, coaches and trainers, from the various cities and communities who are engaging with the CCC approach. If your organisation is interested in hosting a Community Climate Coaches training (e.g. for 20+ people), please see Host A Community Climate Coaches Training
