Since 2009 I have been been a cleantech business mentor and entrepreneur with an environmental passion. I am a founding director of the pioneering Whistlewood Common Limited, demonstrating permaculture design, triple bottom-line yields, new forms of governance and 21st century socio-enviro-economic paradigms. Other active enterprises include Hevasure Limited (an energy-saving heating/cooling systems monitoring business). I am a Commercial Advisor to The National Forest and was active in the University of Derby Low Carbon Business Network while that lasted. Other former projects include Air Fuel Synthesis Limited and the ambitious regeneration of a redundant retail property in South Derbyshire. I am a founder member of Extinction Rebellion (Derby). For seven years I was the Investor Relations/Global Communications Director of IMI plc and prior to that, Global Head of Brand for Rolls-Royce plc. Formerly with National Geographic Magazine, a one-time publisher with HarperCollins, founder of several Transition Network initiatives (local and national), I trained originally as a systems geographer. This experience leads to a particular insight into the implications of the multiple (and interconnected) challenges facing the biosphere. Recent writings for various publications and on-line blogs include musings on the themes of "hopium", terminal despair and permaculture as palliative care for the planet.
