"For me, food is the intersection between environmental justice and social justice.

So those are the two things I'm probably most passionate about in life and the things that have driven me to do all the things that I've pretty much ever done.

I care deeply about the environment, about biodiversity, about ecology, about soil health, plant health, animal health and planetary health.

And I also believe that we ought to have a fair, equitable and just society.

So environmental justice and social justice are my twin drivers, and food is really the intersection for both of those."

What does this course cover?

  • Organic gardening, growing food and herbs is a lifestyle and with the right information will stay with you forever.
  • In this course we will give you all the information you need to get started with growing food, even in the smallest of spaces.
  • You’ll learn essential information, such as healthy soil - needed to grow healthy abundant crops without costing the earth - information that’s often missing from horticultural courses and the Introduction to permaculture.
  • There will be lots of no screen time, and we will provide you with a workbook to apply your learning throughout the course.
  • Once you’ve completed the course, you’ll be ready to grow your own food and love eating it.

The content for Growing Food in Small Spaces has been created by many expert permaculture teachers in collaboration with the Permaculture Association learning team (who brought you the well reviewed Introduction to Permaculture course), bringing you a course that draws from a wide variety of experiences and knowledge.

Abi's course sessions are complementary to the online course materials. She will walk you through additional topics such as perennials and cycles to dive deeper into understanding nature and how this applies to their small spaces.

Abi will support you with your course materials as needed in the live sessions, but will focus on supporting you to understand your space.
She will discuss available and useful non natural methods sometimes needed to combat the restrictions that arise in small spaces.

Upon completion, you'll get one of our snazzy certificates to evidence your work!
