Educator experience

My first design for a medicinal forest garden was a plan for the Millennium Green at Sandford in Devon. After some time out working on Holt Wood I am now returning to this project at Sandford and adapting the planting for the ongoing herb group to manage it.

Holt Wood Herbs was a design project for transforming a redundant conifer plantation and growing a range of medicinal plants for use in a consultant medical herbalist practice. Over 15 years I and my partner gained much experience and evolved the design as a vibrant medicinal forest garden.

Over the years I have advised on growing herbs in numerous talks ('Medicinal Herbs in Your Garden') offering suggestions for sustainable planting and harvesting. See The Medicinal Forest Garden Handbook (Permanent Publications, 2020) to develop more informed design of projects, large and small, with healing plants. For more about healing properties of medicinal trees and shrubs see Trees And Shrubs That Heal (2023).
