A closed biodynamic permaculture system producing herbal medicine.
Hatteral herbs

Hatterall Herbs is a half acre, closed permaculture system set up for the growing of medicinal plants and healing food. The gardens are tended according to biodynamic principles, which makes them by default organic. We are working towards Demeter certification. The gardens were started in 2014 and consist of a herb growing area in the form of a 35 x 35 metre troja labyrinth, no dig vegetable and soft fruit area and a 1/4 acre food forest. We use agroforestry principles on the whole site, where different layers of vegetation support each other. Pleaching, coppicing and pollarding techniques are used to increase yield and tree density. Every plant is edible, medicinal and a source of building material or fire wood. We have no weeds! ;) 2022 saw the completion of a sustainable Passiv Hause style timber framed, timber clad building built from locally sourced materials by local craftsmen. The building is used for medicine making, consultations and courses and workshops.
