PAB sees climate change as the greatest challenge of our times. Our focus is on helping you to accelerate both personal and community climate action.
Climate Actions help us respond to personal and collective crises, help mitigate climate anxiety, save money, restore biodiversity, build community and enhance our quality of life. At the same time taking positive action increases the pressure for change at government and corporate levels, and increases the isolation of those actively resisting change.
PAB's climate action work focuses on three key strands: Practices, People and Places. Each strand has its own project: 52 Climate Actions for practices; Community Climate Coaches for people; Places Transforming Communities (iACT) for places.
52 Climate Actions is designed to:
Help you understand your personal power in responding to climate change
Highlight 52 of the most practical responses to climate change at household and community levels
Promote these solutions to a wide audience
Inspire people to action to help them reduce their carbon footprint, adapt to climate change, and embrace a low carbon culture
- Be rooted in permaculture, a design system that aims to create sustainable human habitats by following nature's patterns.
Community Climate Coaches are individuals who work to catalyse climate action and community resilience in their region. They:
Facilitate, coach, network and amplify community-led participatory approaches
Help people understand how climate change is likley to affect them and to explore how they feel about this
Inspire local people to create and deliver Community Climate Action Plans
Ensure all the voices in the community get heard
Connect up different communities to learn from and inspire each other
Generally work in teams.
We have developed a range of CCC training and tools to develop and strengthen the skills, knowledge and attitudes needed. These are primarily targeted at community catalysts or their communities but can also be adapted for public servants or other organisations. If you would like to undertake the initial Community Climate Coach training please email Chris at [email protected]
Learning and demonstration centres (such as farms, visitor centres, and community gardens) have a critical role to play in the movement to respond proactively to climate change. iACT is a system to train, support and enable teams from such centres to maximise their impact.
iACT covers the seven main areas that underpin a thriving demonstration project:
Through iACT, any centre can access a comprehensive range of tools, resources and learning programmes to build their team’s internal learning, resilience and expertise, and to catalyse community climate action and local resilience.
