We are keenly aware of the demand and the need for sharing Permaculture in communities across the country and beyond. We're running this course again with the aim of nurturing some new Permaculture teachers into this growing niche! The course is aimed at those wishing to teach Permaculture and is also applicable to anyone who wants to expand their informal adult and community education teaching/facilitation toolkit. It is suitable for complete beginners looking to start teaching and also more experienced teachers looking to expand or reinvigorate their practise. This course is Inspired by permaculture and using whole systems thinking, coupled with action and reflection learning. It is integrated into our PDC therefore providing opportunities to study a wide tutor team with a diversity of teaching styles, techniques and methods. It is also a sneaky way to repeat a good chunk of your own PDC possibly with different tutors ….(serving multiple functions!) It also means that you will get to visit a variety of permaculture sites throughout the course. You will have the benefit of personal guidance from lead tutors Hannah and Suzie, opportunities to plan, practise and receive feedback on your teaching, and ask anything that you ever wanted to know about teaching Permaculture in all kinds of contexts! You can expect this course to be lively, interactive, learner led, community based, innovative, a little bit challenging and fun! Participants must have already completed a PDC to apply for this course. If you have not yet completed a PDC, it may be possible to complete this course alongside the 2025 PDC if you wish, and if you are up for the double commitment! Cost Full fee €850 TSG may be accessible for those in receipt of a social welfare payment Course summary Our approach to this course The course is an exciting opportunity to start your teaching/facilitation journey or develop your skills in a ‘live’ setting, through the following approaches: observation, reflection, practise, supportive guidance, and mentorship from experienced teachers. Each learner will develop their own unique style of teaching. This course offers a dynamic space to do that using the approach we have honed taking our diverse past learning and applying it over the last (combined) 16 years on the Permaculture Design Certificate Courses offered at Carraig Dúlra and in Roscommon. Our PDC’s have people care and a deep understanding of diverse learner needs at its core. Our style nurtures and uses our innate ecological intelligence and brings nature’s design into play to enhance our teaching and facilitation. This approach takes into account both individual learning journeys and a collaborative group culture using active and reflective learning and a designed immersive learning environment. This allows for high levels of peer to peer collaboration between educators, and learners alike. We also explore how to create informal immersive learning environments, and includes lots of games and fun or ‘edutainment’ (education and entertainment), What you’ll do on the course: See and learn from the diverse teaching and learning styles of our PDC tutor team. Experience the ‘behind the scene’s of a PDC, join planning and review meetings Design sessions, solo and with a co-tutor Practise presenting and facilitating in a variety of settings, Give and receive feedback Evaluate different settings, Reflect on and evaluate your practise, explore intentions, goals, and emerging style as an educator and design your pathways forward Listen deeply Fear- busting Avail of one to one mentoring with experienced tutors Access opportunities for further ‘shadow teaching’ and mentorship Visit Carraig Dulra, Earthcare farm and a number of other Permaculture sites Challenge and empower yourself, build self-confidence and have fun!
