A volunteer run, permaculture designed garden for the residents of the care home to enjoy The purpose of Thornbury Community Permaculture Project is to create a space and place in which volunteers can learn about and practice the permaculture principles of 'earth care, people care and future care'. The main activities of the group are to transform the outdoor spaces of the care home by planting pollinator friendly planrs, creating no dig beds to improve soil health, increase biodiversity by maintaining insect houses and zoning wildlife areas, maintaining the wildflower meadow, creating and maintaining systems which use the waste generated by the site to put back into the site (leaf mulch stores, composting, seed collection), adding planters filled with pollinator friendly herbs, and to develop connections and conversations around the issues of climate emergency and its solutions. Gardening provides TCPP volunteers with opportunities to be active outside, as well as improving wellbeing by connecting with others over shared interests. Finally the volunteer activities in the garden provide residents with something to look at and the planting improves the overall appearance of the outdoor spaces. Volunteer sessions run weekly every Thursday morning from 9.30 to 11.30am If you would like visits, how should people arrange their visit? email us to arrange your visit Copied to clipboard Practical Solutions Categories Land and nature stewardshipGardens and orchards Health and well-being Type of project Charity / Social Enterprise Physical Elements/Features Community garden Garden Services/Activities Volunteering Contact name Emma Young Postal address of project Alexandra Way care home Alexandra Way Thornbury BS35 1LA United Kingdom Contact email [email protected] Website Sustainable Thornbury Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/235893120812/
