We have lived at and nurtured our place since 1997, helping it regenerate and diversifying it from sheep grazed monoculture to a productive, biodiverse food producing and wildlife rich haven.
We (Purposeful Permaculture) are Angie and Andy Polkey. Pengwndwn is a 1.4 ha (3.5 acre) smallholding that we are custodians of in the village of Swyddffynnon in mid Wales, overlooking the amazing expanse of Cors Caron, an 800 ha expanse of wild land in the Teifi valley.
We have planted a woodland, forest gardens, orchards, a veg garden, lots of fruit! We also have a polytunnel and greenhouse, water harvesting systems, pollinator beds, a compost toilet, solar PV, wood fuelled heating, chickens and conservation grazing sheep. We aim to live as sustainably and lightly as possible and are always looking for ways to improve our lives in this respect. Although not vegan we aim to source almost all of the fertility that our food growing needs from within our site boundaries.
Angie is an established permaculture teacher and our management of Pengwndwn has helped us both deepen and strengthen our knowledge and practice of permaculture, regenerative practices & systems thinking.
We are members of Lampeter Permaculture Group, a vibrant and active group of like minded people living in and around Lampeter. LPG has spun off various initiatives in its life so far, such as apple days, plant and seed swaps, a seed library, permablitzes, skill shares and an incredible edible scheme in Lampeter town.
If you would like visits, how should people arrange their visit?
Please contact us by email to discuss visiting. In order to offer the best learning and reciprocal experience, we prefer either volunteer visits as part of Lampeter Permaculture Group's WWOOF hosting, house sitting via Trusted House Sitters, or particpation on Angie's local courses. Other visits may be possible and may be part of a larger group visit if dates are available.
