We're a permaculture growing project in Gateshead, sharing skills and produce and building community

A community allotment based growing space and orchard which brings together young and old, teaching organic and permaculture principles and sharing good, local produce among growers and the wider community.

We are one of the most northerly locations for growing hops in the UK and our hops have featured in many brews! Our crops are mainly perennial fruits and herbs and we practice no dig on most of our plot. A forest garden is being created among the apples trees on land outside of the allotment, where there is also a wildflower meadow.

We run regular fund-raising events and any profit we make is put back into the local community and keeping the garden running through buying seeds, plants, equipment and training volunteers.

Our community events throughout the year include bonfire night gatherings and plant and seed swaps.

We're normally open most Sundays from May until October and at other times for special events. We also meet for volunteer sessions every Friday morning during the main growing season. If you're making a special trip, email us beforehand to check the gate will be open or that we'll be there.
