Description:
In 2001 the school acquired 13 acres for a campus, centrally located in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and began offering Spring, Summer and Fall continuing education programs. In 2002 the EcoVersity embarked on three integrated initiatives: A Bioregional Academy which will include continuing education courses for residents of the Upper Rio Grande Bioregion, as well as a library, and community meeting center for local use. Curriculum Development; A proposed Certificate in Earth-Based Vocations starting June, 2003. An upper divisional BA and MA degree program to follow. A Campus Development Plan including a green office park, an EcoVillage, a campus store and cafeteria. Planning, design, and building will be central to the curriculum, and will become a demonstration site for whole-systems design in Northern New Mexico.
Summary:
The EcoVersity was founded in 1999 by a launch team of educators, ecologists, anthropologists, and activists who gathered to design a school for students seeking innovative and practical approaches to learning from the land.
