Want to make a start building with natural materials? Don't know where to start? We've set up practical one-day Natural Building Experience days throughout the spring and summer, to get you started looking at the local landscape with a fresh pair of eyes. What could you make with materials that are free and readily available? Our Experience days give you a taste of working with greenwood in the morning and earth in the afternoon. Choose from daub, cob, clay render or clay lump blocks. We can take you through the basics of sourcing materials and convertion into usable materials that just require your human input and a little bit of help from our team of experts. As part of these Experience Days we show you what has been achieved by trainees and volunteers at Orchard Barn. We'll look at the hand made roof frame, the hand-cleft shingles, the reinstated cob walls and the bigger picture of reinstating a Suffolk Long House 'like for like'. We'll even show you how to boil water for your tea using wood shavings to fire up our Storm kettle. We'll show you how our off-grid site works and help you formulate ideas for your own projects. This video illustrates what you might learn with us. These Experience Days are perfect for a day out in the country with friends and family, or dare we say it as Team Building or Corporate Days with a Difference. Please contact us if you would like to bring a group. Our approach to sustainability is unique, and with over a decade of working with students and the local community we have many valuable tips to pass on. Click here for web page and booking info
