Starting a new hobby or income stream making greenwood products? Begin by making your own Shave Horse. At Orchard Barn we facilitate courses in the use of sustainablly sourced greenwood from the local woods. The Shave Horse course is led by master Bodger Will Wall. On this course you will use traditional carpentry tools to develop your greenwood working skills whilst making your own Shave Horse to take home. Learn how to use a froe, draw knife, side axe and T auger. Learn how to sharpen and care for these tools. Craft your own Shave Horse the size that suits your body (and will be transportable home). Learn these skills and more at Orchard Barn in rural mid Suffolk. We are an off-grid Permaculture Land Centre that is run by OBee Community Interest Company. Come and see how we have converted non-standard local trees into buildings and how we have dug our own clay and reconstructed the farm yard walls around our teaching space. Find out how trainees and volunteers have brought our 17th century timber frame barn back from the brink of dereliction and see how it is now used as our main workshop and teaching space. Click here for a short video that shows you the raw materials, previous students making their own shave horses, and a little intro to Orchard Barn. Step back in time when you come through our homemade Sweet Chestnut gates. A warm welcome waits you. Please book early for this Shave Horse course. Not only will you get the Early Bird discount but it will ensure you a place on this popular course. helen.pdf
