Course summary

Frame baskets are some of the earliest and some of the most beautiful baskets ever made.
On this course we will explore this tradition and learn some of the unique techniques associated with willow frame baskets including the production and shaping of the frames and ribs and produce at least one finished piece of work.

Over two days you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the techniques of basket making and perfect your hand skills through several attempts. You will certainly notice the difference in the quality of your baskets over the two days. Come away from the course with a good muscle memory of the skills involved and a basis in which to build upon your weaving skills, with variations and styles.
You should be able to complete either a round frame basket or a handled trug basket.
During the course we will look at the choice and preparation of materials for these baskets.
All materials and tools provided by the tutor, Phil.

There will be time to discuss willow growing and processing, preparation of materials, tool sharpening and to study other projects using willow.

No previous experience of willow work is required, all tools and materials will be provided. Be warned though, willow is seriously addictive stuff – this course could change your life!
