Cost Full £320, Concession £280 Course summary A Patrick Whitefield Associates course led by Caroline Aitken. This Totnes Permaculture Design Course is in a part-time non-residential format in order to make it more accessible to those on low incomes or with work and family commitments which make a residential course unfeasible. The course will run on Wednesday evenings at Birdwood House from 6.45pm to 9.15pm for 12 consecutive weeks. Additionally there will be 3 weekends of practical activity and design work which will include a tour of Martin Crawford’s forest garden in Dartington and a Transition Town tour of Totnes projects. A Permaculture Design Course gives you what you can’t get from books: the experience of permaculture design. It centres on a series of practical exercises in which you develop a design for an actual piece of land with guidance from your tutor throughout. There’s no better way of learning than by doing, and by the end of the course you will be ready to go home and design your own space. In addition there are shorter desk-top exercises, slide shows, talks and discussions. As well as focusing on permaculture as a design system we also explore it as a guide towards more sustainable living in this time of great change. The course is certified by the Permaculture Association of Britain. This is a qualification recognised by the permaculture community internationally. Your tutor is Caroline Aitken of Patrick Whitefield Associates. Caroline worked alongside Patrick for many years and now teaches and advises all around the country. Caroline’s background is in design and horticulture with an emphasis on food growing, people care and holistic thinking. Caroline is also co-author (with Martin Crawford) of Food from your Forest Garden a guide to harvesting, storing, cooking and preserving forest garden produce.
