Course summary

A two-week comprehensive residential Permaculture Design Course through which you will receive the internationally recognised certificate. Topics will include the permaculture ethics & principles, design practices and their application, soil, water, built environment, plants and trees, growing food, and permaculture in community.

This is a fantastic place to study permaculture as there are wonderful tours of Findhorn Ecovillage which is a full-featured permaculture settlement - you can see all aspects of the curriculum living and breathing here on site, so fantastic for kinaesthetic and visual learners!
For example, on the soil day different students will share about a particular soil topic, we will hunt for soil indicator species and choose where to dig a soil profile pit to investigate the soil under our feet. We will compare soil types, sing about soil and learn how to improve soil. In the afternoon we will visit the impressive community composting scheme with hot bins, and work with microbes to preserve food. In the evening we can watch a soil movie.
On the resource use and built environment day we get deeper into the permaculture ethics, ecological and carbon footprints, and then visit some top notch, high spec eco-homes in co-housing, and a low tech DIY home built from an old whisky barrel by the residents themselves.
We will visit two Permaculture ScotLAND Centres in Findhorn - the Barrel House and the Hinterland Edible Forest Garden which are really different and yet excellent examples of permaculture in action.
We will see and learn about food forests, composting (from biochar to wormeries to hot compost), tree planting, ecosystem restoration, growing food, social and personal permaculture and much more.
We will have a day trip to the Black Isle Permaculture and Arts Permaculture ScotLAND Centre.
Full residential with room and board, materials and field trips included. Lead by Lusi Alderslowe and supported by Findhorn ecovillage community members
