Course summary

Learn how to make energy from pedal power. Theory, design and practical.

Saturday 15th February 2025
During this session we will
- Get a basic understanding of electronics
- Learn how to design pedal powered generators
- Design various pedal powered generators to suit our needs
- Build a pedal powered system for charging any USB device

It is quite likely we will finish the pedal power build in one day, so if you can only make Saturday you are welcome to come to one day only (and pay accordingly)

Sunday 16th February 2025
This day is super flexible, we do whatever projects the group wants, including some of the following
- Complete yesterdays build (if not already completed)
- Build a PA system
- Look at a choice of other energy collecting devices ie piezoelectric or if people are interested we can play with arduino uno to collect some power metrics from the pedal powered generator.

=== TEACHERS ===
Lead Instructor
Rakesh Rootsman Rak – An experienced Permacultre designer teacher, forest garden specialist, yoga teacher, homeopath and reggae DJ. Rakesh has been designing and teaching permaculture to individuals and communities since 2009, and has taught over 120 permaculture, forest gardening, eco village design and related courses. His design portfolio ranges from a forest garden on part of a 30-hectare ecovillage in Croatia that he co-owned through to many urban community food growing gardens, private farms and back gardens as well as designing collaborative businesses, urban water retention systems and even computer software and documentation systems. Rakesh is also passionate about sharing his journey of self empowerment (learning how to make all the things you need for yourself rather than relying on the system to provide for you), this includes eco architecture (low impact housing); capturing and storing energy (electricity, heat, lighting, etc); fuel efficient heating systems (rocket heaters and stoves); water capture, purification and recycling systems, natural bee keeping and so on. He is one of the founders of the Children in Permaculture project, Youth in Permaculture and Roots n Permaculture. So be prepared to go off on inspirational tangents occasionally.
