We are working in collaboration with Northaw Community Orchard to deliver 2 of our usual 3 day, Introduction to Permaculture course. You will learn how to use permaculture design in your garden and home. You will discover the holistic approach permaculture offers, and have a chance to work on a practical design of your choice, incorporating the permaculture techniques.

Some of the elements you will discover on this interactive, and transformative course:

  • What permaculture is?
  • Why use permaculture?
  • How to zone your garden for efficiency of use?
  • Understanding energy inputs
  • The importance of working with nature rather than against her
  • How to use permaculture for social situations

You will meet others who are sharing this journey with you, to make change to their lives, towards a better future. There will be a brief introduction to social our new Active Resilience for Community and Earth course.

The Introduction course is residential at the orchard, set in a residential, but rural location.

The course class room is a beautifully homemade yurt, which looks out on to the orchard. Sitting behind the yurt are the orchards bees.  If you wish to stay over night, you can  bring your own tent. Limited to 6 tents. We encourage  car and tent sharing, where it is feasible.  [Small tents only] Car parking is limited so we do encourage the used of the local public transport.

There is a compost toilet with sink onsite. Both the yurt and toilet are surrounded by the orchard and nature reserve. The site can get quite muddy if wet so we encourage you to wear appropriate footwear. You are welcome to walk around the site. It is open to the public so please be respectful of this and anyone you encounter

There is no gas or electric.

The orchard is located in the village of Northaw approximately 13 miles north of central London. Cuffley is a short walk away with shops, supermarket and a coffee shop. There are one or two really nice, local walks and there may even be a chance to meet the Seed Sistas, who are directors of Northaw Transition and trustees of the orchard - https://seedsistas.co.uk/garden-projects/

There are two pubs within walking distance.
