Axemanship

Join us for a weekend of woodland living to fell a mature tree with axes and hand saws. We'll be working with mature Oak trees at Westonbirt Arboretum. It’s an exhilarating and humbling experience. This is the largest living organism that you will ever harvest and it’s good to ‘feel’ the effort that this really requires. Chainsaws have only been in popular use for about 60 years. Using axes and hand saws was the ONLY way to do it before then. Who knows, those days may come again.
