It is invaluable to identify what plants are on your site before you begin any major changes to the site. This can help to identify whether your project has helped to increase biodiversity for example – the initial survey becomes your 'baseline data'. There are many useful plant guides (books and apps), but for a really thorough survey, why not engage with your local wildlife group?
