Natural Flow is heading to The Quadrangle Trust in leafy Kent for this Forest Gardening weekend course.

Are you seeking to create abundance in your own back garden or community growing space?

Forest garden design packs useful species into a small area to create an intensive and highly productive system. Learn how by design, a tree system can provide a diverse range of foods, requiring little maintenance and with few off site inputs.

On this two days course we will cover:

  • how a forest garden works
  • design elements of a forest garden
  • useful permaculture design principles
  • maintaining and building soil fertility and much more

 
Our teaching style will be lively, participatory and thought provoking. We hope that you will come away empowered and inspired to create your own meaningful designs.

The weekend will be led by Jo Barker and Claire White, both experienced & passionate Forest Garden Designers and teachers who have worked on various projects, ranging from Farm scale design and implementation, community projects and home gardens. Examples of their designs will be available on the course.

The course will cover:
• Origins & principles of forest gardening.
• Perennial food growing,
• Design with trees, shrubs and ground cover.
• Implementation of design and aftercare.
This course is open to all, no previous experience is necessary to attend, forest gardening attracts interest from experienced gardeners and professionals as well as newcomers. There will be practical sessions (mulching) and design exercises. We will be outdoors for much of the course and might be visiting other sites, if you have a disability that you think may affect your ability to attend the course, please contact us before booking to discuss how you can be accommodated.
By the end of the course you will have a basic knowledge of the ideas and principles of forest gardening as well as understanding some of the techniques necessary to put the theory into practice.

This course will explore contrasting Woodland environments, tree identification and classification, the history of Forest Gardens and Permaculture. students will get the opportunity to make a simple permaculture design on the forest garden at offshoots permaculture project and help in developing this area, utilizing different propagation techniques, tree pruning, thinning, and exploring the concepts of building soil, layering and zones. students will also get to take home propagated trees/shrubs.
