Summary:

Observation and mapping are two key elements of creating a good design , this course is a hands-on approach to getting comfortable and confident trying out different tools for land-based design

Set in the beautiful Herefordshire countryside at Applewood Permaculture Centre this hands-on training has been developed to assist participants in the early stages of any design process - the observation and survey of a site and its steward. While a few days is limited time to fully observe a site, much can still be learned by being present on a piece of land, examining and trying out different observation and mapping tools, and sharing experiences. This interactive training takes participants through hands-on, land-based design activities on a real site, bringing permaculture theory to life.

Design for more connection in your life and community
What if everyone in your village or community knew themselves deeply, and understood how to bring their gifts and genius to the world for the benefit of all. What if everyone was supporting each other to do that, to be their fullest selves?

What would that feel like?

What would it be like for our children, growing up in a village like that...

Social permaculture shares tools, practices and design for effective, connected communities and individuals. It draws on many sources, gathering and sharing good practices, and empowering people to create their own bespoke solutions.

It uses the principles we observe in nature and that can be seen in long-term, earth-connected cultures around the world to grow more wholeness in ourselves and to strengthen our communities.

An opportunity to bring a project or issue you’d like to do some work with. You will get a new perspective and generate solutions. You will come away with a clearer vision and some guidance from nature and the principles of permaculture on how to achieve that vision. This will be achieved through a facilitated permaculture design process. This process will be held within a ceremonial framework.

Summary:

The PTC its a course designed for people that want to learn how to share information in a clear and supportive way.
We spend our time sharing about educational tools that can be used to present information in a way that there is little difference between student and teacher.
There is a deep focus on the practice of learner based education and discussion about the results.
On this course we also learn about how to teach the PDC and other courses, how to develop curriculums and content and how to design classes of any topic.
This course has also the purpose of empowering people that want to become a permaculture teacher.
Our main goal is to create a safe environment for people to open and experiment with our tricks under our supervision and support.

In Guanajuato we will be teaching 3 courses
the PDC Permaculture Design Course from 29 Jun to 8 Jul
the PSC Permaculture Social Course from 9 to 13 Jul
and the PTC Permaculture for Teachers Course from 14 to 18 Jul
if you want you can be part of the 2 courses to get a deeper experience on Permaculture education.
For people that complete the 2 courses there will be access to the
Permaculture Design Internship certificate

Summary:

This course will have a focus on Water and Earthworks, which we will than expand upon to understand its foundation for so many other aspects of working with the land. The learning experience will be dominantly hands-on with multiple projects throughout Can Lliure. There will be some in class time for advanced design learning, and some specifics about the various systems we will be installing and working with.
All physical land systems are literally grounded in the earth. The Water and Earthwork aspect of this course will look from the micro to macro scales of understanding about water and landscape for designing, working and shaping the earth as the foundation for regenerative systems; The centrality of water and landscape will weave together other systems that are part of creating a holistic farmstead, as well as more dense human habitations. These will Include Forest Gardens, Garden systems and design, Infrastructure in Design and Farm, and Roads and Paths.
TOPICS INCLUDE
Water: mineral, resource, living, precious and political
The watershed perspective
Patterning in water and earthworks
Keypoint and keylines: conceptual understandings and practical applications
Earth structures: hand-built and working with machines
Ponds: siting, construction, creating an ecosystem, full site perspective
Water in the built landscape, urban and suburban situations
Water and Infrastructure
Forest Garden design and implementation

Summary:

This training has been developed to assist participants in the early stages of any design process - the observation and survey of a site and its steward. While a few days is limited time to fully observe a site, much can still be learned by being present on a piece of land, examining and trying out different observation and mapping tools, and by sharing experience. Hence this training takes participants through hands-on, land-based design activities on a real site, bringing permaculture theory to life.

Observation is a keystone skill in permaculture design. If we spend more time observing as a basis of site and client analysis and subsequent planning, we can make fewer mistakes and create more effective designs that can provide more benefits at lower cost. Thorough and on-going observation helps us to understand boundaries, patterns, resources and constraints that are factored into to our designs. This course looks at observation in the context of designing land and lifestyles.

Mapping is also an important design tool because it enables us to record observations in a visual way, and then to add subsequent design plans to aid implementation.

The course is suitable for beginners wanting a taste of permaculture and how the design process begins, to people having completed their Permaculture Design Course and wanting a refresher or to look in more depth at observation, and for diploma apprentices wanting to hone their observation and mapping skills.

No former permaculture training is required, although those who have previously received some will be a step ahead. Some pre-training reading can be provided to ensure that all participants start the course with at least an understanding of permaculture basics. This will allow us to get more quickly into the essence of the training.

Summary:

Course aim: An experiential journey into the world of systems and patterns and their value in designing for both land and people.

We will explore systems and patterns in our own lives and the world around us, through games, observations, artwork, mindmapping, slide shows, talks and discussions. This experiential learning embeds the language into our own thinking enabling us to become fluent in using patterns and systems in our formal and informal design work. Applewood Permaculture Centre will provide the perfect opportunity to learn systems and patterns from the most proficient teacher - nature; with a multitude of different habitats and ongoing permaculture designs in action.

Summary:

Looking deeper into ‘Pattern Understanding’ and its applications within Permaculture, as well as exploring the importance of the ‘Living Wisdom’ of the Indigenous People and Nature itself. Available to groups of 10 or more.

From fractals to flow-forms, from proportion to diversity, from circles to spirals, from the microcosm to the macrocosm, from me to us, from pi to phi, from explosions to implosions and from unity to infinity. This course will be exploring how nature puts herself together, from the smallest relationships of matter and energy all the way to the hugest possible expressions of form that we can see or imagine. We also explore the similarities over these different scales through time and space, and see how these different perspectives combine to form an interconnected universal view.

It is not necessary to have completed your PDC or diploma in Permaculture. But please come with some understanding of Nature as the reality that we live in, that we are part of it, and that life is a gift. We are trying to study natures archetypes to understand the small pieces of the bigger picture as well as the ‘bigger picture’ itself, the Whole. We are not learning the secrets of Nature to work against Nature, but instead we are trying to use them to aid pre-existing natural processes and rehabilitate lost or destroyed ecosystems.

Many people find it hard to know how to recreate the randomness and anarchy of natural patterns and arrangements, which in its essence is actually profound order. This course will include many visual and practical elements including tips for ‘daily-life’ about how to bring this information into the designs of everything that we do. The theoretical classes will be balanced by a good selection of outdoor activities including designing on the land, with hands-on and interactive design processes.

The main teacher for this course will be Ras John Cresswell together with three guest teachers.
