Summary:

Learn how to engage children in all aspects of permaculture, learning from nature with a child-led approach. This course will give you the skills and support you need to design with and for children.

If you have completed the Introduction to Engaging Children in Permaculture course, you will understand how important it is to embed this into children’s learning environments. This course will equip you with the skills to take you to create two Diploma level designs, with and for children – a session plan and a garden.

THIS COURSE WILL GIVE PARTICIPANTS:
*A toolbox of ways to engage children in permaculture using a holistic, creative approach which involves children in the whole process as a partner in their learning.
*Understanding how the permaculture design process can be used when working with children.
*Experience and support to creatively design a playground/children’s garden with permaculture to maximise the benefits of outdoor learning for children.
*Experience learning both indoors and outdoors through tasks and assignments in a way which reflects the CiP pedagogy.
*Understanding about how to apply the permaculture ethics, principles and design to education including designing session plans which engage the whole child: eyes, heart, hand and head and using the process of ‘sowing, growing and harvesting’.
*Confidence in the use of the CiP resources including the case studies, film and manual.
*Understanding of how permaculture can support teachers and other educators in their work with children.
*Experience of examples in good practice and inspirational stories which will motivate and encourage you to engage children in permaculture.
*Specific skills which you can use to manage a group of children outdoors safely including risk-benefit assessments and safe tool use.
*Opportunity to ‘meet’ other people who are interested in engaging children in permaculture.

Summary:

This workshop is free thanks to a grant from the National Forest.

What can the natural world teach us in a time of uncertainty and change?

Overview:

We associate woodlands, forests and other natural ecosystems with growth, connection, adaptation and resilience. However, often we struggle to experience these in our own lives – on a personal level, in our societies and with regard to our uncertain and changing world.

In this interactive workshop we will explore principles derived from nature, how we can learn from them in a real, practical way and use them in our current circumstances

This workshop is relevant for all types of challenges:

Personal health, both physical and mental
Changing circumstances
Covid-related issues
Worries about the state of the world
Concerns about the future
Burnout

We will also explore how we can use nature’s wisdom to be part of the solution to the world’s problems, preventing us from becoming paralysed in the face of uncertainty.

Summary:

Are you struggling to find your niche? The Think Like a Tree design process evolved from the Design Web and is inspired by the wisdom of trees. You can use this approach to live your life with purpose, designing your own health and happiness using the wisdom of 42 natural principles drawn by observing trees.
Led by Sarah Spencer, the author of Think Like a Tree and co-facilitated by Milly Carmichael and Samantha Woods - all Diploma holders and Permaculture teachers who have used this process to design their own ways to resilience and well-being.
The course will be an adapted version of the Think like a Tree programme taking place via Zoom and with home study and outdoor sessions ‘off-line’. There will be breaks during sessions with tasks, so it won’t just be sitting at a computer.
The group size will remain small so you will gain from learning from others, and you’ll have access to a group to interact between sessions.
