Thank you for your interest in joining the Board of Trustees of the Permaculture Association (Britain).

The Permaculture Association is both a Company and a Charity, so by standing for election you become both a Trustee and a Director. For simplicity, we just refer to Board members as Trustees.

Please note that to complete the form you will need to include the name of a member of the Permaculture Association who is willing to nominate you as a trustee.

Once your form has been received, we will contact you and invite you to attend a Board of Trustee meeting (held monthly via an online call). If after having met Trustees and discussing the role, you still wish to go ahead for election, then your details will appear on the voting information sent to members and members will make the final decision by vote.

Please complete all sections of the questionnaire as fully as possible, so we can process your application easily.

If you need any help or guidance filling in this form, or would be interested in having an informal conversation about the role before applying, an existing Trustee would be happy to help. Please contact the Board or the office for more details.

Please note that by completing this form you are agreeing to the Permaculture Association storing your information in line with our Privacy Policy. Trustees of the Permaculture Association are listed at Companies House  and on the Charity Commission website. If appointed, your name, date of birth, and nationality will be listed.  Your home address, phone and email will not be public. Trustees are also listed on the Permaculture Association website, with a photo and profile provided by yourself.

If you are already an existing member of the Permaculture Association, please log in first to auto-complete part of the application form.

Trustee applicant

Trustees have legal duties and responsibilities and it is important that you understand what they are. Trustees also need a good understanding of the organisation that they are helping to govern.  As a prospective Trustee you are encouraged to familiarise yourself with the documents listed below.

Your induction will include opportunities to ask questions about these documents and the current issues facing the Permaculture Association, and if elected by the membership, additional training and support can be offered to help you develop in your role.

You will be asked to make yourself familiar with Charity Commission guidance and the essential documents of the Permaculture Association listed below.

  • The Board policy manual which includes a description of trustee roles.
  • Memorandum and Articles of Association that describes how we are constituted.
  • A copy of the most recent annual accounts
  • Recent copies of the Board of Trustees meeting minutes
  • Permaculture Association policy on conflicts of interest
  • The Permaculture Association’s strategic plan
  • Charity Commission booklet ‘The essential trustee: what you need to know’ (CC3) and the ‘Charity Governance Code’ www.charitygovernancecode.org
