alan_mitchell - Main Profile
In Edinburgh I work at the Salisbury Centre, adding diversity to the garden for food growing and wildlife. I also have a permaculture project in France to create a forest garden and restore an old farmhouse with traditional materials and sourcing wood from the land around the building. Started the forest garden with the first fruit and nut trees planted in 2017 and growing well. The one hectare of established sweet chestnut/oak/beech/hornbeam woodland is being managed mainly for wildlife at present. Another hectare of bramble and bracken is gradually being converted to woodland and back to meadow while also maintaining some important scrub areas for wildlife. I also run workshops to teach spoon carving and whittling - wood can be a very sustainable material to use for most things if managed correctly.
