Anna Locke - Main Profile

Anna is a permaculture designer and teacher based in Hastings. She is also a community development project manger. With a solid background as a gardener, specialising in forest (forage) gardens, she offers a bespoke design service or consultancy. She has planted over 50 forest gardens of varying sizes, including a large ongoing project in Hornshurt Wood and in her own small-scale permaculture farm, both in East Sussex. She regularly holds workshops to empower people to plant their own, look out for- 'How to Plant a Forage Garden' on her website.

Anna is a fully accredited teacher of people-centered permaculture and a former student and assistant to Looby Macnamara (by coincidence both had studied Human Sciences). She has been trained in inter-disciplinary thinking and a holistic approach to problem solving, very relevant to permaculture. This has been expressed in a 20 year career in holistic therapies, bringing many transferable skills to people centered permaculture. Also with a back ground in emotional literacy, working with vulnerable children as a mentor in schools and being a fully trained parenting facilitator she also brings insights to group situations and can run workshops to do with health and well-being.

In recent times Anna spent 7 years co-running a transition group in Primrose Hill. Though first attending a permaculture intro course in the mid-nineties, it was a re-connection to permaculture through the Transition Town movement and community gardening that led to the full permaculture design course (PDC) with Steve Jones in 2011 and then the completion of the teachers diploma in 2016. Since then she has been teaching, practicing, designing, giving talks and getting involved in a whole range of community aspects that relate to permaculture in her home town of Hastings and the surrounding countryside.
