The Balkan Retreat
The Balkan Retreat is a one-acre permaculture home and garden in the early stages of development, in rural Serbia. The Balkan Retreat combines a small-holding with seasonal tourism and cultural projects. It offers an Air BnB room, hostel, mini-camp site, and organised retreats, programmes and events. A healthy, simple and homely environment situated in the tiny village of Bešenovački Prnjavor on the southern slopes of the Fruška Gora National Park, a gently hilly, forested oasis. It is a two-minute walk from the forest and a 10-minute walk from a lake. The Balkan Retreat is run by two theatre-makers and nature lovers, Vivien von Abendorff and Kalki Aporia who also run the Balkan Producing House NGO, which produces cross-border theatre.
