Course summary

A two day oval willow basket weaving workshop in traditional ‘stake and strand’ basket making, using prepared basketry willow plus some grown at Denmark Farm Conservation Centre on the wetland system to add colour and texture.

Over these 2 days we will be working with different traditional basketry techniques; we will be making oval baskets with bow handles. You can make an oval trug or shopping basket.

This workshop is most suitable for people with some previous basket making experience, however if you are a beginner you are very welcome to join us so long as you are not too ambitious with the overall size of your basket. As a complete beginner you may consider attending our one day Beginners workshop first.

Children aged 9+ are welcome, with an accompanying adult.

All tools and materials provided. If you have your own sharp secateurs and a knife, please bring them along.

Please wear warm old clothing.

Tutor: Jane Welsh

Jane is an experienced basket maker and attentive teacher. Her knowledge and love of willow is inspiring. She will also have a range of her own baskets for sale at very reasonable prices.

“Thank you so much for arranging the basket making course. Jane is an amazing and thoughtful teacher. She gives everyone her undivided attention and responds to what they want to do and their level. It is relaxing just to be with her and I learn so much. A big thank you! It was like a mini-holiday.”
