Course summary

This two-day event will focus on some of the richest and most rewarding native wild foods to be found, in some of the Lake District’s most stunning locations.

Mushroom foraging

Day one is all about mushrooms. Be they medicinal, edible, psychoactive, poisonous, for paper-making, or for dyes; the day is aimed at immersing ourselves into the world of mushrooms, learning about their diverse shapes and forms as well as uses. How to recognise the key identification features, where to locate them, and how to best prepare them for use.

Edible and medicinal plants

Day two sees us head to the coast with edible and medicinal plants being the main focus. From shingle-hugging species, to dune specialists, then on to the salt-loving species of coastal marshlands, we will encounter a dazzling array of beautiful and specialised plants with again, a diversity of uses. This two day celebration of the richness of our native bio-diversity will be taught by Jesper Launder, a passionate mycologist and herbalist, who has more than three decades of knowledge on all things edible and medicinal in the plant and fungi kingdoms.
