By making some installations at Laya Point you will learn all you need to know to be able to create some live willow sculptures of your own. We will be building a live willow fence around a pond and then merging it into a sculptural arbor that will provide a sheltered relaxation area for watching the diversity of life as it flits and glides in and around the pond. We will cover all aspects of live willow work including choice of willow varieties, site preparation, aftercare and maintenance. We will be learning by doing. Come and share in this unique and fun experience! This course will be largely outdoors so come prepared for the Cumbrian spring weather and some hands-on creativity. There will be time to discuss willow growing and processing, preparation of materials, tool sharpening and a look at other projects using willow. No previous experience of willow work is required, all tools and materials will be provided. Be warned though, willow is seriously addictive stuff - this course could change your life!
