Course summary

A couple of summers ago a bunch of passionate people got together to help build the Gaia Gallery, London’s first Permaculture cob narrow boat. Through our play with ancient London clay we reconnected with the earth and each other and that connection grew stronger over the years. Since then we deepened out understanding and practise of applying Permaculture to urban environments, and the time has come to run an introductory course aimed at challenging the way we do business and live our lives in the city. The course offers an opportunity to reframe our understanding of Permaculture away from solely a land based design system and inspire us to find innovative ways to apply it to our lives and businesses in an urban environment where land is hard to come by.

The two day course will be held at the inspirational Bow River Farm Project, a fledgling collective and hub of permaculture and creativity on the River Lea, opposite the Olympic Park in East London. The course will both support and feed the project, specifically by creating a rocket stove cob oven, a unique functional asset and focal point for the community using the space. It is aimed at newcomers to urban Permaculture but we feel anyone with a passion for building community and resilience in the city can benefit from the course.
