ntroduction to Training the Trainers

This is a two day module for people who want to teach others about natural building both on Straw Works practical builds and on the SW theoretical core modules. This course concentrates on how to teach & deliver skills & information effectively, it does not cover all the practical skills that are also required to be a trainer.

Lesson Planning

Identifying the aim, learning outcomes and teaching methods to be used in a session.

Teaching methods

Does the material lend itself to whole class teaching or would it be better presented to groups?

Generating and using resources

This topic involves identifying the point to be taught and finding or generating materials in suitable formats. Formats could be paper based, power point, video, audio, web based etc.

Ice breakers & setting the tone

Straw Works begins each practical build in a particular way. This method sets the tone and explains the ethos of the company. During this topic the methods will be demonstrated to you and you will have the opportunity to role play them in the group.

Scoping a course

Scoping a course is about becoming familiar with the venue, facilities and limitations, numbers of participants and their expectations.

Teaching a lesson

You will have the opportunity to prepare and teach a 20 minute lesson to the rest of the group.

Cost: £130* includes tea, coffee and biscuits. Please bring your own lunch. *Trainees on the Straw Works Trainee Programme receive 10% discount for payments made in advance of this course.
