Course summary

This Introduction to Permaculture weekend course takes place at Reading International Solidarity Centre and explores its award winning permaculture forest roof garden as part of the course .

Following the Permaculture Association curriculum you will be guided through an introductory exploration of the ethics and principles of permaculture through exercises and mini projects. During the weekend we will examine a varied range of large and small projects around the world as well as the 17 years old forest garden on the roof!

You will gain inspiration and guidance as well as discovering how to deepen your knowledge and continue on the permaculture path. This is just a first step, you will not become a permaculturist or gardener in one weekend – but you will learn a huge amount and find the tools and inspiration to create a first design and explore further .

You will learn how to create designs and systems for sustainable living in harmony with nature. Permaculture has been described as ‘the revolution disguised as gardening’ and has been used for everything from pots and small gardens to large farms and communities, work projects, life plans, relationships and general problem solving. Permaculture tools bring innovative, ecological and methodical thinking to all kinds of situations and enable us to devise creative, thoughtful, sustainable and regenerative solutions.

If you have a problem or a project in mind you will receive help to start designing a sustainable solution or there will be a variety of ideas to get you started and give you experience of this innovative design process, something that you will continue to use throughout your life.
