Course summary

Our Grow Your Own programme is a series of nine short courses providing all the basic knowledge required to get growing at home. Our focus is on growing vegetables whilst being mindful of nature.

Compost is black gold and an essential ingredient of growing fruit and vegetables in the home garden. This course explores everything you need to know about how to compost successfully. From constructing a heap and the right mix of materials to whether or not to turn it, this course will answer all your composting questions.

There is a classroom-based theory part to this course, as well as an outdoor practical where we will look at and work with the compost made on site. This course will equip you with the fundamental techniques of creating your own ‘black gold’ compost.

Please note: This course will involve outdoor demonstrations. Please come prepared for working in wet and cold weather. All tools and working gloves will be provided.

The course is suitable for anyone aged 16 or over. Please bring a packed lunch on the day. Hot drinks and biscuits will be provided.
