Course summary

This is a rare opportunity to not only learn about the theory behind forest gardening, but also to participate in the planting of one at a favourite established permaculture site. Please note: we're returning to the site where we planted out the first phase of a new forest garden five years ago and will be extending the planting into an adjacent area, using what we've learned from the first time around. The site is quite challenging, being on a steep slope at 400m above sea level and on acidic soil, so also shows what can be achieved, even in difficult conditions. Heathercombe is also very beautiful, being on the edge of wild Dartmoor.
The course also includes a visit to Martin Crawford's flagship forest garden near Totnes.
Please note this is the first part of two complementary courses which can be taken either individually or together. Part two will focus on the planting out of the understory in the existing forest garden area.
