Imagine growing your own apples, berries, rhubarb and strawberries. Or artichokes, hops, rocket and thyme. By using plants with different heights, you'd be using all the space in your garden. AND with a single blitz of planting, you'd enjoy a rolling harvest throughout the year, every year. Come and learn about forest gardening - a no-dig approach that's kind to wildlife and to your back.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
* learn the basics of forest gardening - what makes them work, how they are structured and what they produce
* take a look at practical examples of forest garden designs and spend time producing your own forest garden design
* try eating some forest garden produce at lunch, which normally includes a forest garden salad, pickles and pesto
* meet the plants in the forest garden at Edible Landscapes London, Finsbury Park

USEFUL TO KNOW
Location: The training mostly takes place in a cosy living room and in the afternoon we walk 5 minutes to Finsbury Park, to meet the plants

Summary:

Forests are self-fertile assemblages of mutually beneficial trees, plants, fungi, animals, birds and invertebrates, which are productive throughout the seasons and offer niches for flora and fauna to prosper in a mutually supportive way. They are sustained by the natural cycles of life where the outputs of each species meet the needs of each other in intricate and sustaining ways.

Forest gardens are low input / high output systems, tailored to meeting the maximum productivity from minimum work, by careful thinking, planning, design and execution.
