Reducing your intake of animal products is a powerful and positive step towards a more compassionate lifestyle, and greatly reduces your environmental impacts. Yet even a vegan diet can have a high carbon footprint if still reliant on processed foods from industrialised agricultural systems. These often remove trees and forests from land in order to grow fossil fuel dependent annual crops, or rely heavily on imported products, cash crops and exploited labour.

The Veganic way combined with permaculture design systems can create a world that is not just ‘sustainable’ but truly REGENERATIVE, restoring forests, repairing ecosystems, building soils, increasing biodiversity, developing local economies and addressing issues of social justice and animal liberation!

This course will be held over ten days (two blocks of 5 days) over the summer of 2020, and is suitable for all. The content will be covering universal permaculture ethics, principles and design methods, however please note that the focus will be on non-animal based and stock-free systems.

Design 4 ACTION – London’s Permaculture Design Course offers positive design for your life, your community and your world by empowering the genius inside all of us! Running in Spring 2020 at Furtherfield Commons in Finsbury Park, this course is about regenerative learning, enabling individuals, organisations and communities to come together over six weekends to create empowering solutions to the real world challenges we are all facing in these times of change. Adapted from the Permaculture Association (Britain)’s PDC core curriculum, this is a person-centred, fun, lively and inclusive course, exploring and utilising concepts such as Systems Thinking, Holistic Design, Community Empowerment, ‘Whole Person’ Health, Skill Sharing, Critical Thinking, Appreciative Inquiry, Right Livelihoods and much more.

Delivered by NonStuff Industries CIC, this full PDC develops an understanding of permaculture ethics, principles, design processes and implementation techniques. It’s your first step on what we hope will become a lifelong permaculture journey.

Our classes are interactive, relaxed and fun, with a good mix of information sessions, hands-on practical work, observation opportunities, creative project work and participatory ideas exchange. We welcome people of all levels of experience and backgrounds: come prepared to both learn and share.

The course is led by three teachers, James, Nenya and Jenny. There will also be feature sessions with guest teachers – practitioners, designers and specialists in their area.

Learn at one of the most established projects in Permaculture in Europe—the off-the-grid community of Terra Alta. With 10 years as a permaculture site-in-development, an education center, and with over 20 Permaculture Design Certificate Courses (PDCs) taught, Terra Alta, led by visionary Permaculture teacher Pedro Valdjiu, gives students one of the best well-rounded Permaculture educations. Alongside Permaculture, Terra Alta is committed to bioregionalism, evidenced by the involvement and education of local people through community-led regenerative design projects, and by the Waldorf-style school, "Escola da Terra", founded by Pedro Valdjiu and his life partner Rita Seixas. Those particularly interested in social permaculture, holistic infrastructure development, small intensive systems, food forestry, and bio-intensive farming will find this PDC particularly insightful.

The Permaculture Design Course is the basic course needed to give you a good grounding of permaculture and enable you to use the permaculture design process. This process can be applied both in physical, land-based settings and in social and personal situations. Expect a mix of teaching styles and interactive activities, combining indoor and outdoor classroom work. Grow your personal resilience and empowerment.

The Leeds Permaculture Design Course has been running since 2006 and over that time we have developed a unique and engaging modular weekend course that covers a wide range of topics and draws on permaculture projects and activities in and around Leeds. We have a team of teachers with different skills, experience and enthusiasm to give you a great taste of the wonderful range of permaculture, including experience of applying permaculture within homes and gardens, farms and smallholdings, schools, businesses, organisations and networks.

We use a variety of learning approaches including small group work, discussions, videos, practicals, observations, walks, talks and presentations, games, design activities and personal reflection time. Previous students have appreciated the variety of activities and depth of learning, and the sense of support and community that is created between students and tutors.

During the course students will participate in a group design exercise, usually based on a real life local project, and will also develop a personal design project. If you aren't sure which project to focus on we can help you to develop one. The design project work helps to deepen your permaculture skills and understanding.

We will be visiting different sites, including a day with Leeds Coppice Workers learning about woodland management and trees, a trip to Bedford Fields Forest Garden, a walk around homes and projects in Chapeltown, and trips to projects in Bradford and Keighley. Whilst Hollybush Conservation Centre is wheelchair accessible, not all of the visits are, so let us know in advance if you have any access or other special requirements and we will be happy to discuss your needs and work to find a suitable solution. Angus will be supported by Marie Edwards, Teresa Pereira and the Northern School team.

The course content has a wide and flexible application, not only in home-based settings but also for those wishing to apply permaculture design within their business or career. We aim to provide you with the tools to enhance and facilitate community-based projects of all kinds, including Transition Towns and Incredible Edible initiatives.

Participants have access to extensive on-line materials that support the individual course days.
