The Keela Yoga Farm Permaculture Design course combines the standard PDC curriculum with hands-on experience of life at a working permaculture farm. You can take it alone, or in combination with the courses on food forests and natural buildings in the weeks immediately following for a month-long intensive training in practical sustainability.

As well as learning about permaculture philosophy, its ecological foundations, design methodologies, and real-world applications, you’ll get your hands dirty in the vegetable gardens, composting systems, food forests, silvopastures, appropriate technology systems, and managed woodlands on an established 18-hectare site.

This Permaculture Design course will suit you if you are thinking of applying permaculture in your own life, by setting up or joining your own land-based project. It also works well for people seeking ideas, skills and inspiration to embark on a more fulfilling path in life and make positive contributions to the state of the world. Certified by the Permaculture Association (Britain), it offers a foundation to further your permaculture journey via the Diploma in Applied Permaculture Design or other advanced training.

Permaculture Design Course - 8th to 22nd of September 2022
Nourish your mind, body and soul by reconnecting with nature and yourself in this unique offering weaving together Yoga and Permaculture Design.

Join us in the stunning setting of Yogiville Croatia for an all-inclusive experience combining permaculture classes, practical sessions on the land, daily yoga with an offering of delicious organic and locally sourced foods and being part of an inclusive community.

Yoga is a self-care practice that aims to create connection and balance from within. Permaculture explores our human relationships, to each other and the world. By bringing these two practices together we can learn to navigate through the complex landscapes of our inner and outer worlds in a regenerative and healthy way.

This course is not only an opportunity to take time out and rejuvenate in unspoilt forests, lakes, streams and mountains but by the time you leave you will be an accredited permaculture designer with a solid foundation in permaculture design. You will have more of an understanding of a regenerative lifestyle with a deeper appreciation for natural systems which you can confidently apply at home or in your work.

September is a beautiful time to visit Croatia as the heat of the summer has softened while still having plenty of sunshine to take long walks and/or a dip in the natural local lake. During your stay, you will get the chance to immerse yourself in the holistic lifestyle at Yogiville while also putting the permaculture theories into practice by co-designing this relatively new centre spreading over 80 acres.

This course is open to all levels of yoga and permaculture experience, all ages, families, couples, friends and solo travellers.

Summary:

A PDC (Permaculture Design Course) is mainly the theory. The foundation. And although our course programme features daily practical sessions, it doesn’t pretend to equip people with the range of practical skills they’ll need to implement permaculture designs.

While all this knowledge and enthusiasm is fresh, this is a chance to put some of it into practice with support and supervision.

The Post-PDC Practical courses follow on immediately after Quinta do Vale’s residential 2-week PDCs and last for 1 week. They are open to all graduates of the PDCs and anyone else who’s already taken a PDC and is interested in acquiring more practical experience.

The final design exercises for the PDC will be based on parts of the quinta. At the end of the course, we take a vote on what we think is the design or part-design we’d all like to implement (materials availability permitting).

That very specific criterion ensures we run with a project which everyone is enthusiastic about and which is an achievable target for a week’s work.

Courses are taught in English.

The accommodation is camping on-site. 3 vegetarian meals a day are served and we share the cooking - a treasured part of this course. Special diets can be catered for. There are hot showers and free wifi on-site. There’s also a nearby river beach and cafés, all within 300m of the quinta.

The particular challenges of this mountainside location mean the course is unsuitable for people with mobility issues.

The surrounding valleys have attracted eco-immigrants from all over the world during the last 10-15 years. We often manage to squeeze events going on in the wider community into our courses so participants can get a taste for the exciting things happening here. So be warned – this place and the landscape and community it’s embedded in can capture your heart and your imagination!

Summary:

Our Permaculture Design Courses comprise the 72-hour Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC) syllabus and are structured as 2-week on-site residentials. A PDC is an introduction to rethinking far more than just the way humans work with land. As a framework and set of principles, it represents a paradigm shift, profoundly transforming perspectives on life itself, and our relationship with it and with each other.

We've been running PDCs at Quinta do Vale (see our project page), since 2019. The teaching team have a range of relevant academic backgrounds allied with years of practical experience. The site itself, which is fully off-grid and features many examples of sustainable living strategies and techniques, is very much part of the team and has a way of working a quiet magic on participants.

Courses are taught in English through theoretical classroom lectures and practical sessions. We utilise the collective intelligence of the group and students work in teams to develop projects and designs.

The particular challenges of this mountainside location mean the course is unsuitable for people with mobility issues.

The accommodation is camping on-site. 3 vegetarian meals a day are served. Special diets can be catered for. There are hot showers and free wifi on-site. There’s also a nearby river beach and cafés, all within 300m of the quinta.

The surrounding valleys have attracted eco-immigrants from all over the world during the last 10-15 years. We often manage to squeeze events going on in the wider community into the PDC so participants can get a taste for the exciting things happening here.

We place special emphasis on small class sizes. This means more individual attention for each student, a more intimate group dynamic and a more comfortable, relaxed classroom experience. This is the kind of place where students become family. So be warned – this place and the landscape and community it’s embedded in can capture your heart and your imagination!
