Summary:

We are excited to announce a PDC with room for 24 participants in the beautiful archipelago of Orkney led by Graham Bell. A unique location, with a fascnating and often underappreciated place in Britain's cultural and historical heritage, Orkney provides the backdrop for this opportunity supported by Pebble Trust, via Permaculture Scotland's ScotLAND Project, and hosted by Stromness Community Garden. This will hopefully be the first such course of many to target social, economic and ecological regeneration in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland.

The price of this course is on a sliding scale. The full rate, including 12 days of tuition, lunches, trips out and evening events is:

  • £300, for unwaged or irregular earners
  • £450, for regular earners on a low household income
  • £700, for those who are financially secure
  • £950, for those who are financially comfortable

Payment by instalments will be possible, as long as the full amount is paid within a month of the course ending. The most expensive ticket is essentially a 'gift ticket', as it enables more people who can afford the cheapest ticket to attend (which is essentially a bursary rate as this undercuts our 'break even point'). If you are very keen to attend the course, but find that the cost is prohibitive, please get in touch to find some alternative arrangement.

For those who need it, we have arranged for accommodation options near to the venue. August is the peak of peak season for Orkney, so we are very lucky to have this accommodation reserved for you! Please see articles linked for further information about the options available, and enquire with Rachael when you book to reserve your place.

Permaculture Kernow’s 11 module
certificated Permaculture design course.
This course promises to be quite an adventure, as we delve deeply into the life changing world of permaculture.
Participants will have the opportunity discover all facets of permaculture in live online sessions and also have hands-on experience in their own offline self-study practical sessions, as they design and implement in our own home gardens.

This course will guide you through the process of designing your own permaculture landscape and lifestyle.
On top of all of this, upon completing this course, you will get the internationally recognised Permaculture Design Certificate.

You can choose to do the whole 11 modular days course, or dip into the modules that you are most interested in.
N.B.: We strongly recommend, that if you do only want to attend certain individual modules, you at least attend Day 1 first module: An introduction to permaculture module before attending any other module sessions.
You will only receive the permaculture design certificate once you have attended all 11 modular sessions but you can take as long as you wish to obtain the accreditation.
Each module is a stand-alone course in its own right and can be received in any order you choose providing the introductory module 1 is completed first.
The 10th and 11th modules are only attended once all other modules are covered.
The live online sessions will be running every weekend day from 27th September or 3rd October. You will have two chances to attend each session.

Summary:

Led by James Chapman, this full PDC is accredited by the Permaculture Association and develops an understanding of Permaculture ethics, principles, design processes and implementation techniques.

This is a taught, online course running over 6 weekends with additional projects to complete in your own time, both on your own and in groups.

The Covid-19 lockdown has meant everyone has had to adapt to how they live and work, creatively responding to change. During our most recent PDC (January - May 2020) we had to adapt our in-person, face-to-face course, moving the last 3 modules online. We weren’t sure at first how it would work out, but we were delighted with how the modifications went and by the really positive feedback from the student group.

NonStuff Industries is committed to make permaculture more accessible to everyone. Along with a flexible scale of fees, we hope that holding the course online will allow more people to join us.

We welcome people of all levels of experience and backgrounds. Online classes are relaxed, fun and interactive, with a good mix of information sessions using various media, creative project work and participatory ideas exchange. There will be guided practical projects and nature observation activities between modules.

Not sure about committing to the full PDC? Consider joining us for Module 1, which also runs as a stand-alone Introduction to Permaculture.

About the team: The course is led by James and supported by the NonStuff team - Nenya, Carole and Jenny. There will also be feature sessions with guests - practitioners, designers and specialists in their area.

Visit our website to read more about the course content, teachers and fees in the Course Information document - and contact us with any questions!

Dates:
12 September 2020 to 22 November 2020

Following the successful conversion of our current courses to an online format, The Northern School of Permaculture is happy to announce that our next Permaculture Design Certificate course will start in July 2020.

The course content has a wide and flexible application, not only for home and garden design, but also for those wishing to apply the design techniques within their business or career.

Adapted from a traditional classroom setting, this PDC has been designed to recreate this experience as closely as possible. A team of skilled presenters and teachers have been assembled to guide you. Group work is combined with individual one-on-one support across a variety of channels, enabling you to communicate and participate in the way that is best for you.

If you're not sure if this course is for you, the Introduction to Permaculture Design course is running this September and provides a good overview of the principles and practices of permaculture. It will give you a good idea of what to expect from the Design Certificate programme.

Summary:

South Trelowia Barn has been home to Aranya and his partner Jules since the end of August 2019. Set in the Cornish countryside, two barns have sat on the site for about 200 years. Aranya and Jules, his partner, are working on transforming the site using permaculture. The barns were converted to dwellings in the 1980s and provide a fine classroom as well as a long-established and highly rated holiday home. The comfortable accommodation provides space for 6 people. Aranya and Jules are aiming to improve the energy efficiency of the buildings and have already added a 6kW solar array and battery system.

The land outside the barn extends to almost a half acre - not much from a conventional food production perspective, but more than enough for two people to steward without the use of machinery. Aranya and Jules are putting a strong emphasis on home-scale food production and perennial planting, including a small forest garden. The site consists of a number of small areas, each with different microclimates, offering a diversity of opportunities. It is hoped that everyone who visits will be able to observe an area similar to their own garden to explore options of what can be done in such a space.

For those who are especially interested, the Trelowia PDC offers an extra emphasis on home-scale food production in diverse spaces and small-scale forest gardening.
