Summary:

We are excited to announce a PDC with room for 24 participants in the beautiful archipelago of Orkney led by Graham Bell. A unique location, with a fascnating and often underappreciated place in Britain's cultural and historical heritage, Orkney provides the backdrop for this opportunity supported by Pebble Trust, via Permaculture Scotland's ScotLAND Project, and hosted by Stromness Community Garden. This will hopefully be the first such course of many to target social, economic and ecological regeneration in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland.

The price of this course is on a sliding scale. The full rate, including 12 days of tuition, lunches, trips out and evening events is:

  • £300, for unwaged or irregular earners
  • £450, for regular earners on a low household income
  • £700, for those who are financially secure
  • £950, for those who are financially comfortable

Payment by instalments will be possible, as long as the full amount is paid within a month of the course ending. The most expensive ticket is essentially a 'gift ticket', as it enables more people who can afford the cheapest ticket to attend (which is essentially a bursary rate as this undercuts our 'break even point'). If you are very keen to attend the course, but find that the cost is prohibitive, please get in touch to find some alternative arrangement.

For those who need it, we have arranged for accommodation options near to the venue. August is the peak of peak season for Orkney, so we are very lucky to have this accommodation reserved for you! Please see articles linked for further information about the options available, and enquire with Rachael when you book to reserve your place.

Permaculture Kernow’s 11 module
certificated Permaculture design course.
This course promises to be quite an adventure, as we delve deeply into the life changing world of permaculture.
Participants will have the opportunity discover all facets of permaculture in live online sessions and also have hands-on experience in their own offline self-study practical sessions, as they design and implement in our own home gardens.

This course will guide you through the process of designing your own permaculture landscape and lifestyle.
On top of all of this, upon completing this course, you will get the internationally recognised Permaculture Design Certificate.

You can choose to do the whole 11 modular days course, or dip into the modules that you are most interested in.
N.B.: We strongly recommend, that if you do only want to attend certain individual modules, you at least attend Day 1 first module: An introduction to permaculture module before attending any other module sessions.

The Permaculture Design Course is a 72-hour often life-changing experience, accredited by the UK Permaculture Association.

The 7 modules of our online Permaculture Design Course bring us together as a learning community to explore practical and creative solutions for creating resilient ecosystems and designing abundant lifestyles and livelihoods. We will discover how we can work with, rather than against nature to fulfil our human needs whilst caring for the earth and the people.

The course has a strong emphasis on ecological and social design thinking and how this can be applied in different parts of our life and society. It offers us the opportunity to face the predicaments of climate breakdown and the biodiversity crisis and form our own healthy response to these challenges.

Each module consists of 7 to 10 live face-to-face teaching hours and some compulsory as well as voluntary homework. You will work on your own as well as in small groups exploring different subjects and designing a project of your choice that you will present to the group in the final module. On each of the 7 modules we will have a guest speaker, some of whom live in different parts of the world and are able to share their practice and perspective.

Summary:

We are offering a highly affordable and beautiful experience of learning and inspiration, in our PDC course. Based in the natural and gorgeous surroundings of the Sierra Nevada mountains, it is a 16 day long residential course.
The intense theoretical lessons in the classroom are balanced out by practical workshops and exciting 'field trips' to visit two other permaculture projects in the local valleys and mountains. We feel it is important to see the subjects that we study being put into action, experiencing the ways people put permaculture in practice.
The local area also includes many opportunities for continuing your permaculture journey, such as Volunteering on farms, practising design skills, working at the local seed bank, it’s a hive of eco-minded activity!
Taught by local farmer Ras John Cresswell and with special guest teacher Cathy Whitefield, partner of famous U.K. permaculture godfather, Patrick Whitefield. The course will also include five other guest teachers.

This course will be held at the www.lascaniadas.com farm, a beautiful farm close to the SuperNatural mountainside project, And to keep the students happy there will be lots of fresh organic food coming straight out of the gardens. As we are very blessed to be able to have our own spring water and an ancient flood-irrigation system.

This course has a maximum of 25 people, but we had many requests for the last course, so please be quick in booking if you want a place!
