This practical course will bring the possibility of significant and positive life changes. Although permaculture is most commonly thought about in connection with gardening & farming, its principles, ethics and design methods can be adapted and used in each individual's own work, interests and home to bring about a more harmonious & sustainable lifestyle. Permaculture offers a perspective on all aspects of building a sustainable future. Permaculture encourages us to use our individual skills, knowledge and interests, whilst drawing on traditional wisdom, science and our innate ability to observe and learn from the world around us.

Course participants will be awarded the Permaculture Association (Britain)'s internationally recognised Certificate in Permaculture Design.

Richard is returning to Panya Project, Thailand, where He lived, worked, taught and played in 2008/9. Nearing completion of MSc Integrative Eco Social design studies at http://www.gaiauniversity.org/, Richard is passionate about sharing systemic design for positive world change! His background in Organic crop production, Permaculture Design and integrated systems inform powerful and life changing courses around the globe. Mixing a deep and broad knowledge base with powerful community building skills, Richards` courses are a fertile mix suited to both the beginner and designers wishing to hone their skills. The course will be supported by film nights to extend our studies, student skill shares, community building and celebration as well as plenty of hands on Action Learning!

This full 72-hour certified Permaculture Design Course will be held at the site of the Panya Project, about 60 km north of Chiang Mai.
The course will consist of a broad range of topics applicable to life anywhere on this planet, yet will be tailored to the needs of the students present as well as the location at hand. Participants will help to co-create the design of tropical food forests, permaculture-style gardens, natural buildings, water catchment and irrigation systems, work with swales and dams, as well as take part in permaculture activities on the hosting land.
The course will be conducted in the internationally accepted manner. The 72 hours of course work required to receive a Permaculture Design Certificate, will be covered over a two week period, mixing hands-on with plenty of in classroom studies. All students are required to be present for the full two weeks if they wish to receive the certificate.

Permaculture Design Course, Panama

This internationally recognized course is based on the teachings of movement founder Bill Mollison and all chapters of the text, Permaculture: A Designers Manual. The course gives an in depth understanding of the design process and the main elements involved. The course also gives many ideas and inspirations for further study in specific disciplines that can integrate with a productive property of any scale.

The course results in a certificate, which is a prerequisite for the permaculture diploma that is available after 2 years of documented, applied work in the field.

Permaculture Design Course

‘Permaculture for the Rural African Communities; Low tech solutions for development of food security in rural communities’ will be led by Tichafa Makovere Shumba.

The PDC will have a special focus on the application of Permaculture to rural African communities where the successful application of PC is a way to generate long term food security and thus develop community empowerment. Using SFEL’s models, looking at the PKSP schools and considering Konso’s own renowned indigenous agricultural system for design examples, our PDC is of particular relevance for application of PC to rural development, indigenous communities and or the developing world in general.
