‘Permaculture for the Rural African Communities; Low tech solutions for development of food security in rural communities’ will be led by Tichafa Makovere Shumba.

The PDC will have a special focus on the application of Permaculture to rural African communities where the successful application of PC is a way to generate long term food security and thus develop community empowerment. Using SFEL’s models, looking at the PKSP schools and considering Konso’s own renowned indigenous agricultural system for design examples, our PDC is of particular relevance for application of PC to rural development, indigenous communities and or the developing world in general.

An inspiring and informative exploration of the principles and practice of permaculture. A simple, commonsense and holistic design approach to sustainable living, growing and building resilient communities. Learn how to work with nature to create a positive future.

Based in and focussed on the city but venturing out to visit a range of permaculture plots around the SW and Wales including CAT, intentional communities, small-holdings and farms, community projects, green buildings and much more. Design assignments are based on real community projects in Bristol.

Full Design Course

This is a 72 hour PDC run over 6 months, based in Carmarthen Community Education Centre, South Wales. It is supported by the Open College Network and so will cost ONLY £88.00 not including site visits, certificates and PAB membership. The course will be supported by link work to do at home and in self-organised peer groups (especially during March and April, when the course is not running), and accredited to OCN level 3.
The course will visit Heartwood Community (www.g-e-e.org SA17 5ES) for observation, practical and design excercises.
