Adapting a canal boat for full-time off-grid living, optimising sustainability and comfort. I bought the Narrowboat Innisfree in 2016, from friends who had previously used it as a touring boat during holidays. Over the next few years I adapted it to fit my needs as a full-time home and to design out (as far as practicable) fossil fuel dependencies and linear resource flows. While doing so, I was fortunate to have a mooring and allotment at Redacre Community Growing Project on the Rochdale Canal in Mytholmroyd, West Yorkshire, providing opportunities for wider site integration. A companion design describes the design of my allotment plot and its integration to my wider life in the Upper Calder Valley.
