Lilac Tree Plan showing various tree species and their proposed locations

This design was in the context of the LILAC Landscaping design. For a fuller understanding of this design, read that one first.

This design specifies the species and locations of trees in the communal gardens at Lilac Cohousing.

Our landscape architect's plan detailed several tree locations, as well as a list of indicative species. However, it did not specify which species should go in which location. Also, LILAC members wanted to add some more species to the list. It was this level of detail that the design sought to achieve.

The original planting plan by LILAC's architect, White Design detailed 50 new tree locations and a list of indicative species. However, it did not specify quantities of each species or which trees should go where: it was this level of detail that the design sought to achieve.

The design makes extensive use of an adapted version of "McHarg's exclusion method". This is used to identify where different types of tree will be too big, or their roots too invasive for different locations around the site.

See the attached PDF design report for more details. For best results, download it and view it in full screen like a powerpoint slide deck.
