Course Content:
- how to get started and be sustained
- a 12-step process for achieving bioregional food resilience, from both household and organizational perspectives, applicable anywhere
- facilitation methods to build confidence and be effective
- developing regionally-appropriate outcomes-based programmes and projects
- specific educational resource materials designed to enable facilitation to be inclusive, insightful, fun, powerful and effective – using powerpoints, videos, manual, templates, symbol sets, interactive teaching toolkit
- community engagement, especially fun ways of motivating and organizing whole families to get involved
- building interconnected food growing communities through existing social nodes
- local food mapping
- interactive local seasonal calendars for land management, food production, harvest and distribution, linked with social-cultural events
- setting up and operating ‘Community Supported Agriculture’ schemes
- practical education and personal empowerment happening hand-in-hand with growing food, involving households, neighbourhoods, schools and businesses
- enriching regional food economies – increasing local and household wealth through growing surplus and value adding; re-thinking local business
- establishing bioregional food hubs
- audio-visual and story-form presentations of some great successful models of local food sustainability, especially from UK’s Totnes region and New Zealand
