LAND launch event - come and join us!

This will be the event to officially launch the LAND project

Taking place September 11-12th at Ecoworks in Nottingham.

The launch event is a great way for you to learn more about the LAND project and how your project can get involved. Come and join others who are interested in becoming part of the LAND demonstration network!

There will be a presentation about the LAND project and the role of demonstration sites within it, a tutorial about how to use the website to support projects, workshops and a site tour of Ecoworks.

Free food and accommodation for attendees and a chance to network with other permaculture practitioners. The Permaculture Association can offer £50 towards travel for this exciting event.

There are still spaces available so let us know asap and get involved!

Please contact Louise at network@permaculture.org.uk or call her on 0845 458 1092.

New LAND project open for applications

The promised LAND!

The Permaculture Association is excited to announce that the LAND project is now open for applications.

LAND is funded by the Big Lottery's Local Food Scheme to enhance the food growing, land design skills and knowledge of permaculture practitioners and the general public throughout England.

We are looking for 80 demonstration sites to be part of the network by 2012. Projects can be big or small, at home or in the community. The most important thing is that you are willing to engage with volunteers and visitors and be an accessible demonstration of permaculture principles and methods.

We are hoping that members will want to get involved in making LAND a great success, and right now we need your help to update our list of designers, projects and aspiring teachers.

So if you offer design services, want to run local presentations or introductory courses, or have a project but haven't publicised it much yet, do let us know.

LAND events lined up for this year include:

  • LAND launch - September 11th - 12th 2009 (find out more)
  • National Conference with Diploma presentations, workshops, networking and the Association's AGM - October 17th 2009
  • Regional networking and skill-sharing events and a diverse training programme will begin in November 2009.

Please contact Louise at network@permaculture.org.uk or call her on 0845 458 1092.

Permaculture at the Big Green Gathering - tickets!

Permaculture Area @ The Big Green Gathering 2009

If you are missing not having a convergence this year, why not come to the Big Green Gathering? Its big, its green and it’s a gathering of loads of lovely like minded people (20,000 of them). The permaculture area there is virtually a festival within itself, taking up a whole field full of workshops, information stalls, places to meet new people and the permaculture sunken garden.

As usual we have so much to do and see and fabulous people to meet, you may never be the same again. There will be over 100 workshops on all things self-sufficient and ecological living, with plenty of stalls and information as ever. And of course the brilliant Fernhill Farm’s Permaculture Garden, where there will be loads of fabulous practical workshops and a great demonstration of a developing garden, come and get your hands dirty.

Find out about how to design your own living space, to reduce your impact and have more fun. Learn how to increase your chances for planning permission; see how others have set up local food projects. Learn from Patrick Whitefield about how to read the landscape; have a tour of the new waste recycling wetland system, ask the BBC Gardeners World’s Alys Fowler about her winter greens and maybe get on the telly while the BBC films the area, hear about Urban Food growing projects all over the country. The Heritage seed library will be there with lots of great workshops including guys from Garden Organic. Visit the Natural Living Collective for every thing from positive births to natural burials. Come along to the Transition culture showcase and learn from eachother’s experiences and enjoy a cup of wild tea. Hear Pauls Mobbs' latest research on peak oil.

Bring along your spare seeds to swap with others at the seed swap stall. Join the Permaculture Association. Watch one of the many great films in the Permaculture cinema, or use the open space venue to come and do your own workshop.

Come and be inspired, find solutions and go home ready for change. But be warned: the permaculture area may change your life. And the best bit of all… you can get tickets on a last minute special deal at only £80!!
