Supporting Blue Peter's Mission Nutrition Appeal

Supporting Blue Peter's Mission Nutrition Appeal

City farms and community gardens across the UK have been invited to take part in the biggest bring and buy sale ever, to help this year’s Blue Peter Appeal – Mission Nutrition.

The Mission Nutrition appeal is about helping children grow and eat better food – a subject that goes right to the heart of our movement – and the Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens is one of three charity partners leading the appeal.

As part of our plans to raise funds for Mission Nutrition, we are organising the world’s biggest bring and buy sale, which takes place on February 18th, 2009.

On that day we hope that thousands of people will be running bring and buy sales across the UK, including our member groups. This joint effort will help create a massive boost for the appeal and it’s a fantastic opportunity you to be part of a very significant event.

The focus of this UK-wide event will be a huge bring and buy sale at the Lakeside Shopping centre in Thurrock, Essex. There will be a live Blue Peter programme from there on February 18th and a number of sports and showbiz stars in attendance.

If any of our members in London or the surrounding area are interested in setting up a stall at the shopping centre you can go to the appeal website at www.missionnutrition.org.uk to register. If you have any questions please feel free to contact FCFCG on 0117 923 1800 or via admin@farmgarden.org.uk

And if you are based elsewhere in the UK, there are plenty of reasons why you might want to help organise a bring and buy sale:

·        It can attract publicity to your site/group

·        It would attract local people who might not normally visit (and they might come back again volunteers etc)

·        It would attract younger people to visit your project

·        It is relatively quick and easy to organise

Appeal for donations - Africa

Appeal for donations - electricity transformer urgently needed at Fambidzanai Permaculture Centre, Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe is a difficult place to live, yet Fambidzanai Permaculture Centre has continued to work to support people there.

We have been working with them for sometime, providing information and connections to the wider sustainability network, now we need your help to support them further.

They urgently need to replace their electricity transformer, which has been damaged by lightening!  Without electricity, their water pumps don’t work, removing their access to clean water and leaving them open to cholera; they are also struggling to write reports and communicate with the outside world.

The transformer costs $9 000, they are asking friends internationally to make donations towards this.

We will collect and transfer donations from the UK.

Donate here!
