Every year the Association hosts one or more volunteers from The Department of Peace Studies, Bradford University. The first volunteer we hosted was Anna Schmidt, who devised and launched the First International Research Survey. From 2013-14 she was the Association's Communications Coordinator! Last year we had Tom Kemeny, who worked on the Soil, Yields and Biodiversity Project and Nicola Graham who delivered the Knowledge Base and library projects. This summer we welcome Hamza Mohammed who is researching international network building.

Volunteers are recruited in April each year and work at The Association from September to the following June. Their placement means they add a fourth year to their degree programme and qualify for the University's Diploma of Professional Development, so they qualify for student finance through the year. Although unpaid, in all other aspects they are treated like members of staff. They work 30 hours a week and have a clearly defined project which they are expected to deliver. They meet the Research Coordinator once a fortnight for supervisions and personal development discussions. They keep a reflective diary and produce an academic report on their year with us. The volunteer programme is made possible through the enthusiastic support of Dr Ute Kelly and Dr. Rhys Kelly of The Department of Peace Studies.

Bradford University students also volunteer with us for shorter periods. Last summer, we were lucky to be joined by Jon Warmington, who did great work on the 10 year Forest Gardens Research Project.
