There is a growing interest amongst practitioners in the role that multifunctional, agroecological farming plays in promoting ecosystem health with positive impacts on human health & nutrition, socio-economic resilience and climate change adaptation & mitigation. Despite widespread application and a growing body of evidence, there remains a need to develop a robust evidence-base, which recognises and captures systems complexity, through which to promote increased support for agro-ecological farming and its practitioners. This action research project, supported by NGOs and practitioners in the North & South, aims to develop a series of indicators and tools for farmers to measure change in their biophysical, social and economic environments. These tools will enable farmers to become citizen activists, generating data which can be utilised by practitioners and NGOs at local, national, regional and international levels to stimulate change in policy and practice. This project comes at a critical point in the development of more sustainable food systems in order to build a common platform for understanding and monitoring agro-ecological farming methods.

We are continuing to seek funds for this work from varous sources, and have built a strong collaborative  team with The Centre for Agroecology, Water and Resilience at Coventry University and a number of NGO partners in Nepal and East Africa.
