About the project

Harehope Quarry is a former limestone quarry in Frosterley in Weardale and comprises 21 acres of limestone quarry, 9 acres of goat willow woodland and 7 acres of pasture. The Harehope Quarry Project Ltd is a workers’ co-operative and has designed the project with 4 main phases: an aquaculture project, a smallholding, a nature reserve with permissive access and an eco-classroom providing the focus for environmental education, field studies, education for sustainable development, community events and courses and community development projects.
