Farmeco Community Care Farm is part of a conglomerate of four farms that are working together to make farming more environmentally sustainable, better suited to the needs of local food markets, more wildlife-friendly, more open to the local the community, less dependent on chemical pesticides and on fertiliser and less dependent on long-distance transport and thereby have a lower carbon footprint. Farmeco Community Care Farm is a local food system that doesn’t cost the earth, improving education health jobs, reducing the carbon footprint of food production.
Organisations such as Sustain and LEAF recognise the need to make agriculture more environmentally sustainable, with a lower carbon footprint and to use less pesticides and fertiliser. An essential part of this initiative is to educate the wider community and involve them in the food production process to increase local consumption of produce.
