News > > Permaculture Convergence 2008 was a great success! 300 people gathered next to the rising waters of the river in the beautiful Wharfe valley, Yorkshire. We shared skills in over 60 workshops about many different aspects of permaculture, learned about Cuban urban agriculture, and had a generally wonderful time. Workshop reports to follow shortly. News > > Roberto Perez cuban permaculture designer featured in the film ‘The Power of Community’ is coming to the UK to share Cuba’s experience of adapting when its oil supply dried up following the collapse of the Soviet Union. It’s an experience we can learn from as we respond to climate change and oil scarcity. Urban food growing using permaculture techniques which follow nature’s patterns was a key part of increasing Cuba’s food security, and the city of Havana now produces over 60% of its fruit and salad vegetables within the city and its suburbs.
